Double Chocolate Mocha Milkshake

Another request from one of my Instagramers. I made quite a few drinks-mix posts surrounding my cold brewed coffee recipe. Today, I am gonna re-visit one of my favorite cold-brewed coffee recipes, the mocha. To bring things up a notch, I decided to add in some semi-sweet chocolate chips, probably around 65% of cocoa, to make this a "double chocolate" mocha milkshake.

I seriously thought of using a chocolate ice cream, then this would be a "triple chocolate" mocha milkshake, but I foresee that it will overpower the coffee. You can try it out and pls let me know how it goes. I also thought of adding some coffee liqueur, but the overpowering-thingy-thoughts sorta stopped me. Hmmm... Perhaps I will re-visit this in the future and experiment around that idea. Not to take things over the top, I drizzle a very simple chocolate fudge over the milkshake with a touch of espresso powder. So, there it is, double chocolate mocha milkshake.

Ingredients:

(Make 1 milkshake)

  • Simple Chocolate Fudge:

  • High Quality Dark Chocolate Preferably Valrhona, 20g

  • Unsalted Butter, 1 TBSP

  • Sea Salt, Pinch

  • Milkshake:

  • Whole Milk, 1/3 Cup

  • High Quality Dark Chocolate Preferably Valrhona, 20g

  • High Quality Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Preferably Valrhona, 20g

  • Cold Brewed Coffee, 1/3 Cup

  • High Quality Vanilla Bean Ice-Cream, 160g

  • Whipped Cream, For Topping

  • High Quality Instant Espresso Powder, A Sprinkle

Directions:

  2. Prepare simple chocolate fudge.

  3. In a double boiler, add chocolate and butter.

  4. As soon as the chocolate starts to melt, remove from heat.

  5. Add in salt and stir to combine well.

  6. Set aside.

  7. Prepare milkshake.

  8. Chill serving glass in the fridge until ready to serve.

  9. In a sauce pot over medium heat, add in milk and chocolate.

  10. Stir to combine well and until the chocolate has melted.

  11. *Do not bring the milk up to a boil.*

  12. Set aside or in the fridge to cool down completely.

  13. In a blender, add chocolate milk, chocolate chips, coffee and ice-cream.

  14. Pulse the mixture a few times to break up the ice-cream.

  15. Blitz it up to combine the mixture.

  16. *As soon as you see the mixture is combined well, stop blitzing. Over-blitzing will cause the ice-cream to melt super fast and causing it to split.*

  17. Pour milkshake into serving glass.

  18. Garnish the milkshake with whipped cream.

  19. Drizzle some more of that chocolate fudge over the top.

  20. Lastly, sprinkle the espresso powder to top it off.

  21. Serve immediately.
