I saw this trending on TikTok and I couldn't resist; you should know that I am a coffee lover. I was once obsessed with coffee. I studied, research and dive deep into the rabbit hole. I even make my own cold-brewed. So, when something trendy like this popped up, I know I need to explore more.
I am that kinda person who needs to understand the origin of a dish, or in this case beverage, before I actually perform an experiment. It sounds like I am a scientist. You can say that I am OCD or obsessed in a way when it comes to food or beverage. No exception here either. The word "dalgona" is a Korean word that refers to Sugar Sponge Candy. Kinda like a honeycomb but in a much softer texture. The reason why Koreans call this a Dalgona Latte is the color of the coffee cream is similar to the actual dolgona.
In my humble perspective, this is like a reverse latte. Cos usually the espresso is tainted with frothy milk, but in this cup of Joe, the milk is tainted with coffee. Do you catch my drift? Anyway, to make this 100% vegan-friendly, I went a step further by making my own oat milk. On a side note, it has to be Nescafé instant coffee. I am not sure about other brands of instant coffee. Please let me know if you had tried with any other brands. Will I make this again? Probably not. Give this recipe a try and you be the judge.
Rolled Oats Preferably Gluten-Free & Organic, 1/2 Cup
Iced Cold Water, 2 Cups
Maple Syrup, 1 TBSP Adjust To Preference
Pure Vanilla Paste, 1/2 TSP
Nescafé Instant Coffee, 2 TBSP
Demerara Sugar, 2 TBSP
Hot Water, 2 TBSP
Prepare oat milk.
In a blender, add oats, water, maple syrup and vanilla.
Blitz for 45 seconds.
Pass the mixture thru' a fine sieve.
Using the back of a spoon to squeeze out the liquid, but not too hard.
Set aside in the fridge to chill.
Prepare coffee cream.
In a bowl, add coffee, sugar and water.
Using a whisk or a hand mixer, whip until thick and creamy.
Pour oat milk into serving glass.
Spoon the coffee cream over the top.
Stir and enjoy immediately.
